
PHILOSOPHY
Translated as “Ideal” in Korean as well as following the first two words of chef Steve’s Korean name, “Lee, Sang”gun, “I-Sang" holds a deep significance for Chef Steve, symbolizing his ideals, philosophy, and culinary direction.
"Whenever I find new or unfamiliar ingredients or dishes, I cannot help myself imagining them how to combine it with Korean flavors” – says globetrotting Chef Steve who picks the biggest joy of travel as a discovery of new tastes and merging it with his hometown flavor.
CHEF STEVE SANGGUN LEE
Born and raised in South Korea, Chef Steve Sanggun Lee developed a passion for cooking from his family's dining table. After studying culinary arts at Kyonggi University, he honed his skills at the Bentley Restaurant Group in Sydney, Australia. In 2020, he took on the role of head chef at Hansik Goo in Hong Kong, which was his mentor Chef Kang Mingoo's first overseas project.
At Hansik Goo, Chef Steve showcased traditional Korean dishes reimagined in a modern way, earning the restaurant its first Michelin star in 2022. His dedication was further acknowledged with the Young Chef Award at the 2023 Michelin Guide Hong Kong & Macau.
In 2025, he launched Restaurant I-Sang in Bangkok, focusing on creative Korean cuisine infused with his cherished childhood memories.
